Meet Michaela:

the girl behind the camera

I grew up number 4 of 5 siblings and carried the nickname “FedEx” for many years due to being the only brown-haired child surrounded by red-haired siblings. I spent most of my summers outside and barefoot playing in the mud, taking photos with left over disposable cameras and annoying my younger sister. From the moment I was old enough, I was in the showring. Taking calves with my dad to the county fair to show in our Little Britches show is one of my earliest memories.

Simply put, I love the agricultural industry, the rural community and way of life and the amazing stories farms and farmers carry.

My dad and brother actively farm fields of corn and soybeans with my uncle and cousin. A herd of commercial cattle also call our farm home. After a few years spent in Minnesota for college, I came back to Wisconsin. Today, I spend my days working for an advertising agency that helps promote companies that continue to support agriculture.

I believe my calling in life is to help tell the stories of those who feel like they may not have a voice or that they are not being seen nor heard. I use the idea that a photo is worth a thousand words to tell those stories.

I have a passion to serve rural America by capturing the people who put their whole hearts into their businesses and sharing the way of life we all live and love.

It runs through my veins.

At one point in time, I tried to leave the agricultural industry, but quickly fell back into it. One opportunity led to the next and I found myself actively pursuing careers within agriculture. During a chat with my brother, he laughed and explained, “You can try to escape it, but farming runs through your veins.”

He is right. My life has always been influenced by my time spent down at the farm. The lessons I learned in the barn have carried me far in life. I learned by doing and failing and trying again, by pushing myself to make the best even better.

Outside of photography, I love…

Spending time with my family
and my niece,

Annual trips to Eagle River for
boating and snowmobiling,

Cheering on the Gopher Football Team on Saturdays and the Packers on Sundays,

Singing Taylor Swift and Lainey Wilson way too loud in car with the windows down on a summer night.

I’ m ready to pack my camera and take your photo!
